This is a question I am asked often so here’s a little something to help guide you step by step. Once you’ve chosen a real estate agent (Hi. My names Justin. Thanks for choosing me) you need to ask them to refer you to a lender. I recommend Bert Gill. He is a Senior Loan Officer with Movement Mortgage. Bert has been in the business for over 35 years and the Movement Mortgage loan process is swift and painless as opposed to some. You never have to wonder what’s going on with your financing because they communicate every step of the way. In my opinion the main objective here is not to discover how much you can spend, but rather what monthly mortgage payment fits comfortably in your budget. I would recommend a monthly payment that’s 20% of your monthly take-home pay. That’s a very conservative number. Some recommend no more than 25%. Then we match that payment to a loan amount. Once we decide on a comfortable loan amount that doesn’t stretch you- the fun begins. Let’s find that house!
